There have been many job losses throughout this downward spiraling economy, and many of these jobs may be gone forever. This leaves many people wondering where the job security is. Statistically, the best job security can be had in the medical field, now and in the future.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a vital part of a patient’s healthcare whether in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, or a long term care facility. The CNA works under the supervision of registered nurses and is a part of a patient’s medical team. The CNA must always be alert and keep the eyes and ears open to the patient’s behavior pattern and know what to do when an emergency arises.

Although you may be required to work in a patient’s home you are still under the supervision of a registered nurse. Some of the CNA duties consist of: taking vital signs, helping the patient do the necessary things, such as eat, wash, dress, etc. that the patients cannot do themselves, although the CNA is not required to do any heavy cleaning of the patient’s environment, they do need to keep the patient’s area clean, and more.

CNA Certification If you want to be a CNA you have to be trained and certified. Fundamental Hygiene is the first thing that you are required to learn and that is as follows:

·Brushing and flossing a patient’s teeth;
·Helping the patient shower, shampoo and comb or brush their hair;
·Assisting male patient’s in shaving;
·See the patient to the bathroom or giving them a bed pan;
·Empty urinary bags;
· Provide care to patients with catheters and must be trained to be able to insert a catheter; and they
·Collect urine and stool samples and provide enemas.

These are the fundamental hygiene procedures that are expected from a CNA. The CNA Training also includes:
·Taking the patient’s vital signs and recording them;
·They learn to dress and undress a patient; and
